Editorial Policy

VolRadar is a quantitative screening tool, not a financial advisory service. This page explains how our data is sourced, how analysis pages are generated, what is reviewed by humans, and how we handle corrections.

Data Sources

All options and volatility data comes from ORATS (Options Research & Technology Services), an institutional-grade data provider. Price data is sourced from standard market feeds.

Data specifications

Update frequency: Daily, after U.S. market close (~6:00 PM ET)
Delay: End-of-day (not real-time). Data reflects the prior trading session.
Coverage: 500+ tickers (S&P 500 components + popular ETFs)
Implied volatility: ORATS IV 30-day composite
Realized volatility: Yang-Zhang OHLC estimator (displayed on ticker pages) and ORATS close-to-close HV (used for VRP calculation) (10d, 20d, 60d windows)
VRP calculation: IV 30d minus ORATS close-to-close HV 20d
Timezone: All timestamps are U.S. Eastern Time (ET)

Data limitations: ORATS data may differ slightly from broker quotes due to calculation methodology and timing. Always verify specific trade parameters with your broker before executing.

How Analysis Is Generated

VolRadar analysis pages are generated programmatically from institutional data. This is not a limitation — it is by design. Programmatic generation ensures every ticker is analyzed using the same methodology, with the same rigor, updated daily.

Metrics & scores

Calculated automatically from ORATS data using documented formulas. IV Rank, VRP, RV Ratio, Expected Move, Weather Score, and CC Score are all computed deterministically — the same inputs always produce the same outputs. See our methodology pages for every formula.

Interpretive text

Context text on ticker pages (verdicts, key takeaways, explanatory blocks) is generated from condition-based templates. These templates evaluate 6–8 data dimensions per page and select the appropriate interpretation based on actual metric values. The templates themselves are written by the founding team and reviewed for accuracy.

Educational content

Learn guides, methodology pages, and glossary entries are written by the founding team. These are not auto-generated — they are reviewed for clarity and accuracy before publication and updated when methodology changes.

Quality Controls

Indexation gates: Pages are only published and indexed when sufficient data exists. Tickers without adequate metrics receive a “not found” response rather than rendering thin placeholder content.
Tier system: Each page is scored across multiple quality dimensions. Only pages meeting minimum thresholds are made available to search engines. High-risk page types (covered call, wheel strategy) require additional data depth beyond basic metrics.
No personalized advice: VolRadar does not provide buy/sell recommendations, personalized investment advice, or portfolio allocation suggestions. All content describes market conditions and quantitative metrics — interpretation and trading decisions are yours.

Review Process

Content on VolRadar follows a two-track review model:

Data-driven pages (ticker analysis, signals, screeners): Template logic and formulas are reviewed before deployment. Daily data updates flow through validated calculation pipelines. New page types undergo manual review across representative tickers before launch.
Editorial pages (learn guides, methodology, about): Written and reviewed by the founding team. Updated when methodology changes or when user feedback identifies unclear explanations.

Corrections Policy

If you find an error in our data, calculations, or content:

Email hello@volradar.com with the page URL and description of the issue
Data errors are investigated within 24 hours on business days
Methodology corrections are documented and reflected in updated learn/methodology pages
We do not silently change published methodology — significant changes are noted on the relevant methodology page
